The Bible story

When Sarai dealt hardly with her maid Hagar, Hagar fled, and the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness. He told her she would bear a son and call his name Ishmael, "because the LORD hath heard thy affliction," and Hagar called the LORD that spake unto her, "Thou God seest me." Later Abraham sent Hagar and the child away with bread and a bottle of water, and when the water was spent she wept, but "God heard the voice of the lad." God opened her eyes, she saw a well of water, and God was with the lad. Read the whole story in Genesis 16:6–13; Genesis 21:14–20 (KJV).

Memory verse: "And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?" (Genesis 16:13, KJV). It is printed on every level.

Using the mazes in class

  • Give each child the level they can finish: the easy maze for ages 4–6, medium for kindergarten to 2nd grade, hard for 3rd to 5th grade.
  • Tell the story first, then let kids trace the path with a finger before they use a pencil or crayon.
  • Say the memory verse together when they reach the end, then read the "Talk about it" box on the sheet.

Answer keys

Each level downloads two ways: the puzzle on its own, or with a second page that shows the answer (the path drawn in red). Print the key for helpers, or let kids check their own work.
