The Bible story
King Saul took three thousand chosen men to seek David in the wilderness of En-gedi, and Saul went into a cave where David and his men were in the sides of the cave. David's men said this was his day, but David only "cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily," and even then "David's heart smote him." He called after Saul and showed him the skirt, saying, "mine hand shall not be upon thee," and Saul wept and said, "Thou art more righteous than I." Read the whole story in 1 Samuel 24:1–22 (KJV).
Memory verse: "And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil." (1 Samuel 24:17, KJV). It is printed on every level.
Using the mazes in class
- Give each child the level they can finish: the easy maze for ages 4–6, medium for kindergarten to 2nd grade, hard for 3rd to 5th grade.
- Tell the story first, then let kids trace the path with a finger before they use a pencil or crayon.
- Say the memory verse together when they reach the end, then read the "Talk about it" box on the sheet.
Answer keys
Each level downloads two ways: the puzzle on its own, or with a second page that shows the answer (the path drawn in red). Print the key for helpers, or let kids check their own work.
