Medium (grades K–2): kids fill in eight story facts from a word box. Hard (grades 3–5): kids look up eight answers in 1 Samuel 24 and write the memory verse from memory. Each level downloads by itself or with an answer key page.

How to use it

Teach the story first, then hand out the worksheet as review. Pick the level that fits your kids, or print two levels for a class with mixed ages. For pre-readers, read each sentence and both choices out loud and let them circle.

What's on each level

  • Easy, ages 4–6: five sentences with two choices to circle (David, the robe, bowing, sparing Saul, weeping), two "circle the number" questions (three thousand chosen men; "mine hand shall not be upon thee" said two times) and "Thou art more righteous than I" to trace and copy.
  • Medium, grades K–2: a word box and eight fill-in-the-blank facts (the chosen men, the skirt of the robe, David's heart, the LORD's anointed, the cave, David bowing, Saul weeping, David to be king), plus 1 Samuel 24:17 with four missing words.
  • Hard, grades 3–5: no word box. Kids read the verse given for each of eight questions and write the answer, write 1 Samuel 24:17 with only the first letters given, and answer one "think about it" question.
  • Answer keys: every level has one, with a Bible reference for each answer.
