This free Last Supper lesson for kids teaches that Jesus showed us how to serve others, and He gave us the bread and the cup so we would remember Him. Jesus washed His disciples' feet and said, "I have given you an example" (John 13:15). He broke the bread and said, "This do in remembrance of me" (Luke 22:19). It comes in four age levels, each a separate printable teacher lesson, plus one take-home sheet for families. Pick the one that fits your class. Everything is in the order you teach it.
Choose your age level
- Preschool (ages 3–5), 20–30 minutes, 3 pages: a follow-me game with a pitcher, a short story with hand motions and repeat-after-me lines, three simple questions, a shortened memory verse ("Love one another; as I have loved you") with motions, a drawing and a helping job.
- Kindergarten to 2nd grade, 45 minutes, 4 pages: the Follow the Pitcher game, the story in simple words, five recall questions with answers, the Pass the Towel memory verse game, and a Busy Helpers action game.
- 3rd to 5th grade, 45–60 minutes, 5 pages: a greatest-job opening game, kids look up verses in their own Bibles during a fuller story (the passover, the towel and the basin, the bread and the cup, Judas, and "I am among you as he that serveth"), five thinking questions and three recall questions, and a Bible look-up race.
- Preteens (ages 11–12), 45–60 minutes, 4 pages: students read Luke 22:7–20 and John 13:1–17 out loud themselves, with Luke 22:24–27 and John 13:21–30, then discuss greatness, serving, being served and remembering Jesus. Six discussion questions, a journal page, and two memory verses (John 13:34 and John 13:15).

- Prayer.
Tips for teaching the Last Supper
- Read Luke 22:19 and John 13:14–15 straight from your Bible. They are the heart of the lesson: remember Jesus, and do as He has done.
- The lessons keep the Bible's own details: a man bearing a pitcher of water, a large upper room furnished, the towel and the bason, and Judas going out "and it was night." They tell Judas's part plainly and gently, with a short note for the questions kids ask.
- This is a lesson about what Jesus said and did. If kids ask about the Lord's supper or foot washing at your church, each lesson points them to their pastor. There is no pretend communion.
- Short on time? Do the story, three questions and the memory verse. That is a solid 25-minute lesson.
Frequently asked questions
How long does this Last Supper lesson take?
It depends on the age level. The preschool lesson takes 20 to 30 minutes, the kindergarten to 2nd grade lesson about 45 minutes, and the 3rd to 5th grade and preteen lessons 45 to 60 minutes. For a short class, do the story, three questions and the memory verse.
What is the main point of the Last Supper for kids?
Jesus showed us how to serve others, and He gave us the bread and the cup so we would remember Him. He washed His disciples' feet and said, "I have given you an example" (John 13:15). He broke the bread and said, "This do in remembrance of me" (Luke 22:19).
How do you explain Judas at the Last Supper to kids?
Plainly and gently, the way the Bible tells it. Judas Iscariot was one of the twelve, and the chief priests promised him money to betray Jesus, which means to hand Him over to them (Luke 22:3–6). Jesus knew it, and He still loved His disciples to the end (John 13:1, 13:11). Judas went out, and it was night (John 13:30).
Is this Sunday school lesson really free?
