- Ages
- Preschool (3–5), Early Elementary (K–2), Upper Elementary (3–5)
- Time
- 15 to 30 minutes
- Scripture
- Genesis 12–15
- Bible story
- God's Promise to Abraham
What you need
- The printed scene card, tent and verse card template (page 2), one per child, on cardstock so the sky stands up
- Crayons or markers in dark blue, yellow, light brown, brown and dark brown
- Scissors and a glue stick
- The printed promise stars page (page 3), one per child (harder level)
Steps
- Color the 17 stars on the scene card yellow. Then color the sky around them dark blue. Count the stars as you color.

- Color the ground light brown. Color the tent brown and its door dark brown.
- Cut out the scene card, the tent and the verse card on the dashed lines. Help younger children with the cutting.

- Fold the scene card on the dotted line, so the sky stands up and the ground lies flat like an L.
- Fold the tent on its middle dotted line, so it makes a point at the top with the door on the outside. Fold the two end tabs out flat.
- Put glue on the bottom of both tabs and press the tent in the middle of the ground, with the door facing the front.
- Glue the verse card on the back of the sky and read it together.

This Abraham and Sarah craft turns one printed page into a stand-up scene from Genesis 15: Abram's tent under a sky full of stars. God brought Abram outside and said, "Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them… So shall thy seed be" (Genesis 15:5). Kids color and count the stars, fold the sky so it stands up and glue a paper tent on the ground, with Genesis 15:6 on the back. It costs under 50 cents a child, takes about 20 minutes and comes in three levels, from preschool to 5th grade.

What it looks like finished: easy and medium (first photo) and harder (second photo).
Why this craft works
- Cheap and simple: one printed page on cardstock, crayons, scissors and a glue stick.
- Kids do what Abram did: they count the stars, and find out why God said "if thou be able to number them" (Genesis 15:5). Then they learn that Abram "believed in the LORD" (15:6).
- It keeps the Bible's details: Abram lived in a tent (Genesis 12:8). In Genesis 12–15 he is still called Abram, and his wife Sarai; God gave them the names Abraham and Sarah later (17:5, 17:15). The verse card on the back has Genesis 15:6 (KJV).
Three ways to make it
- Easy (preschool, ages 3–5): you cut out and fold the pieces. Kids color the stars, sky, ground and tent, and glue the tent on with your help. No scissors.
- Medium (grades K–2): the craft in the first photo. Kids color and count the stars, cut out the pieces, fold the scene card and the tent and glue the tent on the ground.
- Harder (grades 3–5): kids add four promise stars from page 3. Each yellow star lifts up to show one of God's promises to Abram: a great nation (12:2), this land (12:7), seed as the dust of the earth (13:16) and as the stars (15:5). Then they say the memory verse from memory.
Questions to ask
While kids work, ask where God told Abram to go (Genesis 12:1), what Abram did (12:4), and what God told him to count (15:5). Abram was old and had no children, but "he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness" (15:6).
Tips for the classroom
Print page 2 on cardstock so the sky stands up, and crease the fold hard. For preschoolers, cut out and fold the pieces ahead of time, so all they do is color and glue.

Frequently asked questions
How do you make a simple Abraham and Sarah craft for preschoolers?
Cut out each child's scene card, tent and verse card ahead of time and fold them. Preschoolers color the stars yellow, the sky dark blue, the ground light brown and the tent brown. Then you help them glue the tent on the ground. It takes about 15 minutes with no cutting by the kids.
How much does this Abraham craft cost?
Under 50 cents a child: one printed page (cardstock works best so the sky stands up), crayons and a glue stick you already have. The template is free to print.
What Bible verse goes with an Abraham and Sarah craft?
Genesis 15:6 (KJV), "And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness." It is printed on the verse card that kids glue on the back of the sky.
How can older kids make this Abraham craft harder?
Use the harder level for grades 3–5. Kids add four promise stars from page 3 over the four big stars in the sky. Each yellow cover star lifts up to show one of God's promises to Abram: a great nation (Genesis 12:2), this land (12:7), seed as the dust (13:16) and as the stars (15:5).
