Talk about it: Peter was kept in prison, "but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him" (Acts 12:5). The angel of the Lord led him out, and the iron gate opened "of his own accord" (Acts 12:10). Peter came to the house of Mary, "where many were gathered together praying" (Acts 12:12).

The Bible story

Herod the king put Peter in prison, "but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him." That night the angel of the Lord came, a light shined in the prison, Peter's chains fell off from his hands, and the iron gate opened "of his own accord." Peter came to the house of Mary the mother of John Mark, where many were gathered together praying, and knocked at the door of the gate. A damsel named Rhoda knew Peter's voice and for gladness ran in without opening the gate; they said, "Thou art mad," but when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. Read the whole story in Acts 12:1–17 (KJV).

Memory verse: "Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him." (Acts 12:5, KJV). It is printed on every level.

  • Tell the story first, then let kids trace the path with a finger before they use a pencil or crayon.
  • Say the memory verse together when they reach the end, then read the "Talk about it" box on the sheet.

Answer keys
