Rehoboam and the Divided Kingdom Maze (Easy, Medium and Hard)

These free Rehoboam and the Divided Kingdom mazes come in three levels, so every child in your class gets a maze they can finish. Help King Rehoboam find the way to the old men and their good counsel!

• Easy (ages 4–6): one path with no wrong turns.
• Medium (grades K–2): two or three side paths that lead to dead ends.
• Hard (grades 3–5): many wrong turns, with side paths branching off other side paths.

Each level downloads on its own, with or without an answer key, and every maze has the King James verse 1 Kings 12:7.

Talk about it: The old men told Rehoboam, "speak good words to them" (1 Kings 12:7). But he "forsook the counsel of the old men" (1 Kings 12:8). So Israel rebelled against the house of David (1 Kings 12:19).

The Bible story

All Israel came to Shechem to make Rehoboam king, and they asked him to make his father's "heavy yoke" lighter. The old men told him to "speak good words to them," but he "forsook the counsel of the old men" and listened to the young men that were grown up with him. He answered the people roughly, "I will add to your yoke," so Israel rebelled against the house of David and made Jeroboam king, and "there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only." Read the whole story in 1 Kings 12:1–20 (KJV).

Memory verse: "And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever." (1 Kings 12:7, KJV). It is printed on every level.

Using the mazes in class

• Give each child the level they can finish: the easy maze for ages 4–6, medium for kindergarten to 2nd grade, hard for 3rd to 5th grade.
• Tell the story first, then let kids trace the path with a finger before they use a pencil or crayon.
• Say the memory verse together when they reach the end, then read the "Talk about it" box on the sheet.
