Frequently asked questions

What should we teach kids on Father's Day?

To honour their fathers (Exodus 20:12) and to know God as their Father. Jesus' story of the father who ran to his son (Luke 15:11–32) shows both what a good father is like and what God is like.

What is a good Father's Day memory verse for kids?

Proverbs 20:7: "The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him." For little ones, Exodus 20:12 ("Honour thy father and thy mother") is short and easy.

How do we celebrate Father's Day at church without leaving a child out?

Say "your dad, or someone who cares for you like a dad", invite grandpas, uncles, foster dads and teachers to be honored too, and teach that God is "A father of the fatherless" (Psalm 68:5). Our poems and prayer cards each include pieces that fit every child.
