The Golden Rule

These free Golden Rule mazes come in three levels, so every child in your class gets a maze they can finish. Help the son find the way to his father, who gives good gifts!

  • Easy (ages 4–6): one path with no wrong turns.
  • Medium (grades K–2): two or three side paths that lead to dead ends.
  • Hard (grades 3–5): many wrong turns, with side paths branching off other side paths.

Each level downloads on its own, with or without an answer key, and every maze has the King James verse Matthew 7:12.

Talk about it: A son asked his father for bread, and a good father would not give him a stone (Matthew 7:9). Jesus said our "Father which is in heaven" gives "good things to them that ask him" (Matthew 7:11). So we treat others the way we want them to treat us (Matthew 7:12).

Use them after the The Golden Rule Sunday school lesson, with the crossword and word search.

The Bible story

Jesus taught, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." If a father knows how to give good gifts to his children, "how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" So Jesus said, "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." Read the whole story in Matthew 7:7–12 (KJV).

Memory verse: "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." (Matthew 7:12, KJV). It is printed on every level.

Using the mazes in class

  • Give each child the level they can finish: the easy maze for ages 4–6, medium for kindergarten to 2nd grade, hard for 3rd to 5th grade.
  • Tell the story first, then let kids trace the path with a finger before they use a pencil or crayon.
  • Say the memory verse together when they reach the end, then read the "Talk about it" box on the sheet.

Answer keys

Each level downloads two ways: the puzzle on its own, or with a second page that shows the answer (the path drawn in red). Print the key for helpers, or let kids check their own work.
