Salt and Light

These free Salt and Light mazes come in three levels, so every child in your class gets a maze they can finish. Help the candle's light find the way to all that are in the house!

  • Easy (ages 4–6): one path with no wrong turns.
  • Medium (grades K–2): two or three side paths that lead to dead ends.
  • Hard (grades 3–5): many wrong turns, with side paths branching off other side paths.

Each level downloads on its own, with or without an answer key, and every maze has the King James verse Matthew 5:14.

Talk about it: Jesus said, "Ye are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). A candle goes "on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house" (Matthew 5:15). "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works" (Matthew 5:16).

Use them after the Salt and Light Sunday school lesson, with the crossword and word search.

The Bible story

Jesus told those who heard Him, "Ye are the salt of the earth" and "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." Men do not light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. So Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Read the whole story in Matthew 5:13–16 (KJV).

Memory verse: "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." (Matthew 5:14, KJV). It is printed on every level.

Using the mazes in class

  • Give each child the level they can finish: the easy maze for ages 4–6, medium for kindergarten to 2nd grade, hard for 3rd to 5th grade.
  • Tell the story first, then let kids trace the path with a finger before they use a pencil or crayon.
  • Say the memory verse together when they reach the end, then read the "Talk about it" box on the sheet.

Answer keys

Each level downloads two ways: the puzzle on its own, or with a second page that shows the answer (the path drawn in red). Print the key for helpers, or let kids check their own work.
