Choose your age level
- Preschool (ages 3–5), 20–30 minutes, 2 pages: a short story with hand motions and repeat-after-me lines, toy animals, three simple questions, a shortened memory verse ("I do set my bow in the cloud") with a motion, and a rainbow coloring activity.
- Kindergarten to 2nd grade, 45 minutes, 3 pages: the story in simple words, five recall questions with answers, and the Rainbow Verse game with seven colored paper strips.
- 3rd to 5th grade, 45–60 minutes, 3 pages: kids look up verses in their own Bibles during a fuller story (the ark's size in cubits, the raven and the dove, the dates of the flood), five thinking questions and three recall questions, and a Bible look-up race.
- Preteens (ages 11–12), 45–60 minutes, 3 pages: students read Genesis 6 and Genesis 8–9 out loud themselves, then discuss obeying God when others don't, waiting on God, worshiping first and God's covenant. Six discussion questions, a journal page, and two memory verses (Genesis 9:13 and Hebrews 11:7).

Tips for teaching Noah's Ark
- Let kids hear Genesis 6:22 read straight from the Bible. It is the heart of the story: Noah did all that God commanded.
- Noah's family had to wait more than a year in the ark. Kids who are waiting for something hard can learn from Noah's trust.
- If a child asks about the people outside the ark, each lesson gives you a short, gentle answer from Scripture.
- Short on time? Do the story, three questions and the memory verse. That is a solid 25-minute lesson.
Frequently asked questions
How long does this Noah's Ark lesson take?
It depends on the age level. The preschool lesson takes 20 to 30 minutes, the kindergarten to 2nd grade lesson about 45 minutes, and the 3rd to 5th grade and preteen lessons 45 to 60 minutes. For a short class, do the story, three questions and the memory verse.
What age is this lesson for?
All ages from preschool to preteen. The lesson comes in four separate teacher PDFs: preschool (ages 3 to 5), kindergarten to 2nd grade, 3rd to 5th grade, and preteens (ages 11 to 12). Each one tells the same Bible story at the right length and reading level, with its own questions and activity.
What is the main point of the story of Noah's Ark for kids?
Noah trusted God and obeyed everything God told him to do, and God kept Noah's family safe. The rainbow reminds us that God always keeps His promises (Genesis 9:13).

Eight people: Noah, his wife, his sons Shem, Ham and Japheth, and their three wives (Genesis 7:13). Two of every kind of animal went in, and seven pairs of every clean animal and bird (Genesis 7:2–3).
