This As for Me and My House craft turns one printed page into the day Joshua asked Israel to choose. Joshua said, "choose you this day whom ye will serve... but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD" (Joshua 24:15). Kids set up the great stone under the oak, the witness of the people's promise (24:26–27), and draw their own family in the window of a house beside it.

What it looks like finished: easy and medium (first photo) and harder (second photo).

Why this craft works

  • Cheap and simple: one printed page, a glue stick, crayons and scissors.
  • Kids put their own family in it: every child draws the people in their house, because Joshua said "as for me and my house" (Joshua 24:15).
  • It remembers a promise: the people said, "The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey" (24:24), and the great stone was a witness (24:27).
  • It carries the verse home: Joshua 24:15 (KJV), the memory verse for the whole set, is glued on the back of the card.

Three ways to make it

  • Easy (preschool, ages 3–5): you cut out the pieces. Kids color, draw their family and glue the stone and the house on the card. No scissors.
  • Medium (grades K–2): the craft in the first photo. Kids color, draw, cut out the pieces and glue them.
  • Harder (grades 3–5): the craft in the second photo. Kids add two doors from page 3 that open to show the family inside the house.

Questions to ask

While kids work, ask where Joshua gathered the tribes (Joshua 24:1), what he told the people to choose (24:15), what he said about his house (24:15), what the people promised to obey (24:24) and where he set up the great stone (24:26). Then read Joshua 24:15 together.

Tips for the classroom

For preschoolers, cut out the pieces ahead of time, so all they do is color, draw and glue. Some children's families don't go to church: Joshua said "as for me" first, so every child can choose to serve God and pray for their family.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make a simple As for Me and My House craft for preschoolers?

Cut out each child's card, stone, house and verse strip ahead of time. Preschoolers color the card, the stone and the house, draw their family in the window, and glue the stone under the oak and the house beside it. It takes about 15 minutes with no cutting by the kids.

How much does this As for Me and My House craft cost?

Under 50 cents a child: one printed page, a glue stick and crayons you already have. The template is free to print. The harder level adds a second page.

What Bible verse goes with this craft?

Joshua 24:15 (KJV), "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." It is the memory verse for the whole set, printed on the verse strip that kids glue on the back.

How can older kids make this craft harder?

Use the harder level for grades 3–5. Kids add two doors from page 3 that close over the house window and open to show the family inside: "as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD" (Joshua 24:15).
