Jonah 1–3

This Jonah and the big fish worksheet comes in three free printable levels, so every class can use it. Easy (ages 4–6): kids circle the right word, circle the number and trace part of the memory verse. Medium (grades K–2): kids fill in eight story facts from a word box. Hard (grades 3–5): kids look up eight answers in Jonah 1–3 and write the memory verse from memory. Each level downloads by itself or with an answer key page.

How to use it

Teach the story first, then hand out the worksheet as review. Pick the level that fits your kids, or print two levels for a class with mixed ages. For pre-readers, read each sentence and both choices out loud and let them circle.

What's on each level

  • Easy, ages 4–6: five sentences with two choices to circle (Nineveh, the ship, the wind, the great fish, Jonah's prayer), two "circle the number" questions (three days in the fish, God told Jonah two times) and "Salvation is of the LORD" to trace and copy.
  • Medium, grades K–2: a word box and eight fill-in-the-blank facts (Nineveh, the ship to Tarshish, the great wind, Jonah fast asleep, the great fish, three days and three nights, Jonah prayed, Nineveh believed God), plus Jonah 2:9 with four missing words.
  • Hard, grades 3–5: no word box. Kids read the verse given for each of eight questions and write the answer, write Jonah 2:9 with only the first letters given, and answer one "think about it" question.
  • Answer keys: every level has one, with a Bible reference for each answer.

Tips

  • For the hard level, give each child or pair a King James Bible open to Jonah 1.
  • The Bible says "a great fish" (Jonah 1:17), so the worksheets use those words.
  • Early finishers can try the Jonah word search.
  • Need the full lesson? Use the free Jonah and the big fish Sunday school lesson, which these worksheets follow.
