- The Handwriting on the Wall
This Handwriting on the Wall worksheet comes in three free printable levels, so every class can use it. Easy (ages 4–6): kids circle the right word, circle the number and trace part of the memory verse. Medium (grades K–2): kids fill in eight story facts from a word box. Hard (grades 3–5): kids look up eight answers in Daniel 5 and write the memory verse from memory. Each level downloads by itself or with an answer key page.
How to use it
Teach the story first, then hand out the worksheet as review. Pick the level that fits your kids, or print two levels for a class with mixed ages. For pre-readers, read each sentence and both choices out loud and let them circle.
What's on each level
- Easy, ages 4–6: five sentences with two choices to circle (the feast, the wall, the troubled king, Daniel, scarlet), two "circle the number" questions (a thousand lords; four words on the wall) and "Thou art weighed in the balances" to trace and copy.
- Medium, grades K–2: a word box and eight fill-in-the-blank facts (the feast, the golden vessels, the gods of silver, the fingers, the wise men who could not read, Daniel, the heart not humbled, the kingdom), plus Daniel 5:27 with four missing words.
- Hard, grades 3–5: no word box. Kids read the verse given for each of eight questions and write the answer, write Daniel 5:27 with only the first letters given, and answer one "think about it" question.
- Answer keys: every level has one, with a Bible reference for each answer.
Tips
- For the hard level, give each child or pair a King James Bible open to Daniel 5.
- Early finishers can try the Handwriting on the Wall word search, crossword or maze.
