- The Wheat and the Tares
These free Wheat and the Tares mazes come in three levels, so every child in your class gets a maze they can finish. Help the reapers carry the wheat from the field to the barn!
- Easy (ages 4–6): one path with no wrong turns.
- Medium (grades K–2): two or three side paths that lead to dead ends.
- Hard (grades 3–5): many wrong turns, with side paths branching off other side paths.
Each level downloads on its own, with or without an answer key, and every maze has the King James verse Matthew 13:30.
Talk about it: The man said, "Let both grow together until the harvest" (Matthew 13:30), so no wheat would be rooted up (Matthew 13:29). At harvest time he said, "gather the wheat into my barn" (Matthew 13:30).
Use them after the The Wheat and the Tares Sunday school lesson, with the crossword and word search.
The Bible story
Jesus told about a man which "sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat." When the servants asked if they should gather up the tares, he said no, "lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them." "Let both grow together until the harvest," he said; then the reapers would bind the tares in bundles to burn them, "but gather the wheat into my barn." Read the whole story in Matthew 13:24–30 (KJV).
Memory verse: "Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn." (Matthew 13:30, KJV). It is printed on every level.
Using the mazes in class
- Give each child the level they can finish: the easy maze for ages 4–6, medium for kindergarten to 2nd grade, hard for 3rd to 5th grade.
- Tell the story first, then let kids trace the path with a finger before they use a pencil or crayon.
- Say the memory verse together when they reach the end, then read the "Talk about it" box on the sheet.
Answer keys
Each level downloads two ways: the puzzle on its own, or with a second page that shows the answer (the path drawn in red). Print the key for helpers, or let kids check their own work.
