This free Rebekah Sunday school lesson teaches kids to be kind, even more than they are asked. Abraham's servant prayed at a well, and before he had done speaking, Rebekah came with her pitcher. She gave him drink and said, "I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking" (Genesis 24:19). The servant worshiped, because "the LORD led me" (24:27). It comes in four age levels, each a separate printable teacher lesson, plus one take-home sheet for families. Everything is in the order you teach it.
Choose your age level
- Preschool (ages 3–5), 20–30 minutes, 2 pages: a camel game, a short story with hand motions and repeat-after-me lines, three simple questions, a shortened memory verse ("I will draw water for thy camels also") with a motion, and a drawing activity.
- Kindergarten to 2nd grade, 45 minutes, 3 pages: the Water the Camels relay, the story in simple words, five recall questions with answers, the Fill the Trough verse game with four paper strips, and a Ten Camels counting game.
- 3rd to 5th grade, 45–60 minutes, 4 pages: a do-the-extra game, kids look up verses in their own Bibles during a fuller story (Abraham's errand, the prayer at the well, the ten camels, "the LORD led me," "I will go"), five thinking questions and three recall questions, and a Bible look-up race.
- Preteens (ages 11–12), 45–60 minutes, 3 pages: students read Genesis 24:10–27 and 24:50–67 out loud themselves, then discuss kindness past what is asked, answered prayer (Isaiah 65:24), thanking God and saying yes to His plan. Six discussion questions, a journal page, and two memory verses (Genesis 24:19 and Galatians 6:10).

Tips for teaching Rebekah at the well
- Read Genesis 24:19 straight from your Bible. The servant asked only for a drink; Rebekah offered the camels on her own.
- Count the camels with the kids: ten (Genesis 24:10). It helps them feel how much work her kindness was.
- Genesis 24 never names Abraham's servant, so the lessons call him Abraham's servant.
- Short on time? Do the story, three questions and the memory verse. That is a solid 25-minute lesson.
Frequently asked questions
How long does this Rebekah lesson take?
It depends on the age level. The preschool lesson takes 20 to 30 minutes, the kindergarten to 2nd grade lesson about 45 minutes, and the 3rd to 5th grade and preteen lessons 45 to 60 minutes. For a short class, do the story, three questions and the memory verse.
What is the main point of the story of Rebekah at the well?
Kindness. Abraham's servant prayed by a well, and before he had done speaking, Rebekah came and gave him drink. Then she said, "I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking" (Genesis 24:19). She did more than she was asked, and God used her kindness to answer the servant's prayer.
How many camels did Rebekah give water to?
The servant took ten camels with him (Genesis 24:10), and Rebekah "drew for all his camels" (24:20). She emptied her pitcher into the trough and ran again to the well until they had done drinking.
Who was the servant in the story of Rebekah?
The Bible calls him Abraham's "eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had" (Genesis 24:2). Genesis 24 never gives his name, so the lessons call him Abraham's servant.
