The left right Bible Easter game is a party game with the real resurrection story inside. Kids sit in a circle holding wrapped gifts while you read how Jesus was buried and rose again, from Matthew, Luke, John and Acts. Every time they hear LEFT or RIGHT, they pass their gift that way, and the gift in their hands at the end is theirs to keep.
The story is a retelling for a game, but every event in it comes from the Bible, and the reference is printed after each part. The words in quotation marks are from the King James Version. Even some of the RIGHTs are in the Bible: the net cast "on the right side of the ship" (John 21:6) and Jesus seated "on the right hand of God" (Mark 16:19).
The Easter story sets: the lessons, crafts, coloring pages and puzzles for Jesus Dies on the Cross (memory verse Romans 5:8) and Jesus Is Alive! (Matthew 28:6) tell the same story with the same memory verses.
Talk about it
When the gifts stop moving, ask: what did the angel tell the women? (Matthew 28:6.) What did Jesus say should be preached in His name to all nations? (Repentance and remission of sins, Luke 24:47.) Then read Acts 2:38, where Peter preached exactly that on the day of Pentecost.
Tips
- Read slowly and pause a beat after each LEFT and RIGHT. Kids love it when the words come quickly.
- Use small gifts of the same size, such as a pencil, a bookmark with an Easter scripture or a small treat bag.
- A big group can play with just 3 or 4 gifts: only the players holding one at the end keep it.
- Pair it with resurrection bingo or Easter Bible trivia for a full Easter party.
Frequently asked questions
How does the left right Easter game work?
Players sit in a circle holding wrapped gifts. A leader reads the story, and every time it says LEFT or RIGHT, everyone passes their gift that way. When the story ends, you keep the gift in your hands.
Is this story from the Bible?
It is a retelling for a game, not Scripture, but every event in it comes from the Gospels and Acts, and the references are printed after each part so you can check them. The quoted words are from the King James Version.
Where does the word RIGHT come from in the Easter story?
Right from the Bible! Jesus was crucified between two men, "one on the right hand, and the other on the left" (Luke 23:33). After He rose, He told His disciples, "Cast the net on the right side of the ship" (John 21:6), and He sat "on the right hand of God" (Mark 16:19).
