- Ages
- Preschool (3–5), Early Elementary (K–2), Upper Elementary (3–5)
- Time
- 15 to 30 minutes
- Scripture
- 2 Kings 4:8–37
- Bible story
- Elisha and the Shunammite Woman
What you need
- The printed template (page 2), one per child (cardstock is sturdiest)
- Crayons or markers in light yellow, brown, gray, green, light brown and orange
- Scissors and a glue stick
- The printed mount Carmel page (page 3), one per child, plus a light blue crayon and crayons for drawing the Shunammite woman (harder level)
Steps
- Color the card: the wall light yellow, the ceiling beams brown and the floor gray. Leave the four dotted shapes white.

- Color the bed: the frame brown, the blanket green and the pillow white. Color the table brown and the stool light brown. Color the candlestick: the stand gray, the little lamp brown and the flame orange.
- Cut out the card, the bed, the table, the stool, the candlestick and the verse strip on the dashed lines.
- Glue each piece on its dotted shape on the card: the bed on the left, the table in the middle, the stool beside the table and the candlestick on the right. Count them: one, two, three, four (2 Kings 4:10).
- Glue the verse strip on the back of the card. Read it together.
- Tell it: the Shunammite woman said, "this is an holy man of God" (2 Kings 4:9), and made Elisha a little chamber with a bed, a table, a stool and a candlestick (4:10). Point to the bed: when her son died, she laid him on the bed of the man of God (4:21). Elisha shut the door and prayed unto the LORD, and the child opened his eyes (4:33, 4:35).

This Shunammite woman craft turns one printed page into Elisha's little chamber. A great woman in Shunem saw that Elisha was "an holy man of God," and she made him a little chamber with "a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick" (2 Kings 4:9–10). Kids color the four things, cut them out and set each one in its place.

What it looks like finished: easy and medium (first photo) and harder (second photo).
Why this craft works
- Cheap and simple: one printed page, a glue stick, crayons and scissors.
- Kids count the story: a bed, a table, a stool and a candlestick, the four things the Shunammite woman set in the room (2 Kings 4:10).
- It holds the whole story: point to the bed to tell how she laid her son there when he died, and how Elisha shut the door, prayed unto the LORD, and the child opened his eyes (4:21, 4:33–35).
- It carries the verse home: 2 Kings 4:26 (KJV), the memory verse for the whole Shunammite woman set, is glued on the back of the card.
Three ways to make it
- Easy (preschool, ages 3–5): you cut out the pieces. Kids color and glue the four things on their dotted shapes. No scissors.
- Medium (grades K–2): the craft in the first photo. Kids color, cut out the pieces and glue them.
- Harder (grades 3–5): the craft in the second photo. Kids add a fold-out mount Carmel panel from page 3 and draw the Shunammite woman on her way to Elisha, where she said, "It is well" (2 Kings 4:25–26).
Questions to ask
While kids work, ask why the woman made a room for Elisha (2 Kings 4:9), what four things she set in it (4:10), where she laid her son (4:21), what she answered when Gehazi asked, "Is it well?" (4:26) and what Elisha did after he shut the door (4:33). Then read 2 Kings 4:26 together.
Tips for the classroom
For preschoolers, cut out the pieces ahead of time, so all they do is color, count and glue. Tell the sad part gently: the boy died (2 Kings 4:20), but his mother ran to the man of God, and God gave the child life again.

Frequently asked questions
How do you make a simple Shunammite woman craft for preschoolers?
Cut out each child's card, bed, table, stool, candlestick and verse strip ahead of time. Preschoolers color the pieces and glue each one on its dotted shape on the card, counting the four things as they go. It takes about 15 minutes with no cutting by the kids.
How much does this Shunammite woman craft cost?
Under 50 cents a child: one printed page, a glue stick and crayons you already have. The template is free to print. The harder level adds a second page.
What Bible verse goes with this craft?
2 Kings 4:26 (KJV), "Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well." It is the memory verse for the whole Shunammite woman set, printed on the verse strip that kids glue on the back.
How can older kids make this craft harder?
Use the harder level for grades 3–5. Kids draw the Shunammite woman on a fold-out mount Carmel panel from page 3 and glue it to the side of the card. Fold it closed and open it as you tell how she rode to Elisha at mount Carmel and said, "It is well" (2 Kings 4:25–26).
