What you need

  • One printed card per player (2 per page)
  • Beans or paper squares to cover words
  • A bowl for the calling slips
  • A Bible

Steps

  1. Print the cards and cut each page in half on the dashed line. Cut apart the calling slips on the last page and put them in a bowl.
  2. Give every player a card and a handful of beans. JESUS in the middle is free, so everyone covers it first.
  3. Draw a slip, read the word, then read its verse from a Bible. Players cover the word if it is on their card.
  4. Five in a row across, down or corner to corner wins. The winner reads their five words back so you can check.
  5. Keep going for a second winner, or play until someone covers the whole card.

Nativity bingo is a Christmas party game that reviews the real Christmas story. There are 30 different cards (two per page) and 35 calling slips. Every word comes straight from Luke 1–2 or Matthew 1–2, and each slip names the verse, so the caller reads a little of the Bible with every word. JESUS sits in the center of every card as the free square.

The Christmas story sets: the lessons, crafts, coloring pages and puzzles for The Birth of Jesus (memory verse Luke 2:11), The Shepherds and the Angels (Luke 2:10) and The Wise Men (Matthew 2:10) tell the same story with the same memory verses.

The bingo words

Talk about it

After the game, ask: which word was the very best news? Read Luke 2:10–11 together. The angel's "good tidings of great joy" was that a Saviour was born: Jesus, Christ the Lord.

Tips

  • Use beans, cereal or small paper squares as markers. Crayons work too if every player gets a fresh card.
  • To check a winner quickly, have them read their five words back while you find the slips you've drawn.
  • Short on time? Play "four corners" or "an X" instead of a full card.
  • Print the cards on cardstock and slip them into sheet protectors so they last for years of Christmas parties.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play nativity bingo?

Each player gets a card. The leader draws a word, reads its verse from Luke or Matthew, and players cover the word if they have it. Five in a row wins, and JESUS in the center is free.

What age is nativity bingo for?

Kids who can read short words, about ages 6 and up. Pair a younger child with an older buddy, or let a parent help at a family Christmas party.

Are all the bingo words really in the Bible?

Yes. Every word on the cards is checked against the King James text of the verse printed on its calling slip, so you can read the verse aloud as you call it.
