- Ages
- Preschool (3–5), Early Elementary (K–2), Upper Elementary (3–5)
- Time
- 15 to 30 minutes
- Scripture
- 2 Timothy 1:1–7; 3:14–15
- Bible story
- Timothy
What you need
- The printed template (page 2), one per child (cardstock is sturdiest)
- Crayons or markers in light yellow, brown and red, plus any colors for drawing the people
- Scissors and a glue stick
- The printed harder page (page 3) and about 12 inches of red yarn, one each per child (harder level)
Steps
- Color the stand-up: the walls light yellow, the floors brown and the three hearts red. Leave the three windows white.

- In the left window, draw Timothy's grandmother Lois. In the middle window, draw his mother Eunice. In the right window, draw Timothy as a child (2 Timothy 1:5; 3:15).
- Color the scroll's two rollers brown and leave its paper white.
- Cut out the stand-up, the scroll and the verse strip on the dashed lines. Don't cut out the windows.
- Glue the scroll on the left dotted box under Timothy's window: from a child he knew the holy scriptures (3:15).
- Glue the verse strip on the back of the middle panel. Read it together.
- Fold on the two dotted lines, one fold back and one fold forward, so the stand-up zigzags and stands on the table.
- Tell it: the faith dwelt first in grandmother Lois (point to the left heart), then in mother Eunice (the middle heart), and in Timothy also (the right heart, 2 Timothy 1:5). Point to the scroll: from a child Timothy knew the holy scriptures (3:15).

This Timothy craft turns one printed page into a stand-up of three generations of faith. Paul remembered "the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice" (2 Timothy 1:5). Kids draw Lois, Eunice and Timothy in three arched windows, each under a red heart, and glue a scroll under Timothy, who knew the holy scriptures "from a child" (3:15). The memory verse, 2 Timothy 3:15, goes on the back.

What it looks like finished: easy and medium (first photo) and harder (second photo).
Why this craft works
- Cheap and simple: one printed page, a glue stick, crayons and scissors.
- Kids see faith passed on: a heart in each panel, from grandmother Lois to mother Eunice to Timothy (2 Timothy 1:5).
- It teaches the big idea: you are never too young to know God's Word. The scroll sits right under Timothy (3:15). The harder level adds Paul's letter to Timothy, tied with red yarn (1:2).
- No one is drawn for them: kids draw Lois, Eunice and Timothy in the windows.
- It carries the verse home: 2 Timothy 3:15 (KJV), the memory verse for the whole set, is glued on the back.
Three ways to make it
- Easy (preschool, ages 3–5): you cut out and fold the pieces. Kids color, draw and glue the scroll. No scissors.
- Medium (grades K–2): the craft in the first photo. Kids color, draw, cut out the pieces, glue and fold.
- Harder (grades 3–5): the craft in the second photo. Kids add Paul's letter, folded and tied with red yarn, beside the scroll (2 Timothy 1:2).
Questions to ask
While kids work, ask who wrote to Timothy (2 Timothy 1:1), what Paul called him (1:2), who his grandmother and mother were (1:5), what God hath not given us (1:7) and since when Timothy knew the holy scriptures (3:15). Then read 2 Timothy 3:15 together.
Tips for the classroom
For preschoolers, cut out and fold the pieces ahead of time, so all they do is color, draw and glue the scroll. Cardstock helps the stand-up stand. For children without a believing family, say that a teacher or pastor at church can be their "Lois and Eunice."

Frequently asked questions
How do you make a simple Timothy craft for preschoolers?
Cut out each child's stand-up, scroll and verse strip ahead of time, and fold the stand-up for them. Preschoolers color the walls and hearts, draw Lois, Eunice and Timothy in the windows, and glue the scroll under Timothy. It takes about 15 minutes with no cutting by the kids.
How much does this Timothy craft cost?
Under 50 cents a child: one printed page, a glue stick and crayons you already have. The template is free to print. The harder level adds a second page and a piece of red yarn.
What Bible verse goes with this craft?
2 Timothy 3:15 (KJV), "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." It is the memory verse for the whole Timothy set, and it is printed on the verse strip that kids glue on the back of the stand-up.
How can older kids make this craft harder?
Use the harder level for grades 3–5. Kids add Paul's letter from page 3: they fold it, tie it with red yarn and glue it beside the scroll under Timothy's window, for the letter Paul wrote "To Timothy, my dearly beloved son" (2 Timothy 1:2).
