- Ages
- Preschool (3–5), Early Elementary (K–2), Upper Elementary (3–5)
- Time
- 15 to 30 minutes
- Scripture
- Job 1–2; Job 42
- Bible story
- Job Trusts God
What you need
- The printed field card, animals and verse card template (page 2), one per child (cardstock is sturdiest)
- Crayons or markers in blue, green, tan, brown and gray
- Scissors and a glue stick
- The printed cover page (page 3), one per child, and gray and yellow crayons (harder level)
Steps
- Color the field card. Color the sky blue and the grass green. Leave the sheep white, and color the camel tan, the ox brown and the she ass gray.

- Color the four cut-out animals the same way.
- Cut out the field card, the four animals and the verse card on the dashed lines. Help younger children with the cutting.
- Glue each animal on the dotted shape next to the animal that looks like it. Now there are two of each: "the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before" (Job 42:10).
- Glue the verse card on the back of the field card and read it together.
- Tell the story with it: point to the first animal of each pair for what Job had at the beginning (Job 1:3), then count the pairs, twice as much at the end (42:12).

This story of Job craft turns one printed page into a field with two of each of Job's animals. Job lost almost everything, but he worshipped God and said, "blessed be the name of the LORD" (Job 1:21). In the end "the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before" (42:10). Kids glue a second sheep, camel, ox and she ass next to the first, and count: twice as much! The memory verse goes on the back. It costs under 50 cents a child, takes about 20 minutes and comes in three levels, from preschool to 5th grade.

What it looks like finished: easy and medium (first photo) and harder (second photo).
Why this craft works
- Cheap and simple: one printed page, crayons, scissors and a glue stick.
- Kids retell the story with it: the first animal of each pair is what Job had at the beginning (Job 1:3), and the second makes it twice as much at the end (42:10, 42:12).
- It keeps the Bible's details: sheep, camels, oxen and she asses, the four kinds of animals the Bible counts, and exactly twice as many at the end. No people are drawn, and nothing scary. The verse card on the back has Job 1:21 (KJV).
Three ways to make it
- Easy (preschool, ages 3–5): you cut out the field card, the animals and the verse card. Kids color, glue the animals on their dotted shapes with your help and glue the verse on the back. No scissors.
- Medium (grades K–2): the craft in the first photo. Kids color, cut out the pieces, glue each animal next to its twin and glue the verse card on the back.
- Harder (grades 3–5): kids add the two-sided cover from page 3: gray clouds for Job's hard days fold down over the field, and lift up to show a bright sun and the animals. Then they say the memory verse from memory.
Questions to ask
While kids work, ask what Job did when he lost almost everything (Job 1:20–21) and who came to sit with him (2:11–13). Then count the pairs together and read Job 42:10: "the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before."
Tips for the classroom
Print page 2 on cardstock if you can, so the card stays flat. The animals are small, so let kids cut a rough box around each one first, then trim it. For preschoolers, cut out the pieces ahead of time, so all they do is color, glue and count.

Frequently asked questions
How do you make a simple story of Job craft for preschoolers?
Cut out each child's field card, four animals and verse card ahead of time. Preschoolers color the sky, the grass and the animals, then glue each animal on its dotted shape with your help and glue the verse card on the back. It takes about 15 minutes with no cutting by the kids.
How much does this story of Job craft cost?
Under 50 cents a child: one printed page (cardstock is best), plus crayons and a glue stick you already have. The template is free to print.
What Bible verse goes with a story of Job craft?
Job 1:21 (KJV), "And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD." It is printed on the verse card that kids glue on the back of the field card.
How can older kids make this story of Job craft harder?
Use the harder level for grades 3–5. Kids also make the two-sided cover from page 3: gray clouds over an empty field on the outside for Job's hard days, and a bright sun on the inside. They glue it on so it folds down over the field and lifts up to show the animals, two of each, because "the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning" (Job 42:12). Then they say Job 1:21 from memory.
