- Time
- 15 to 30 minutes
- Scripture
- Genesis 1:1–2:3
- Bible story

What you need
- 2 paper plates per child (9-inch, plain white)
- The printed days wheel and verse strip page, one per child (cardstock is sturdiest)
- 1 brass paper fastener (brad) per child
- Crayons or markers
- Scissors and a glue stick
- The printed cover page, one per child (harder level)
- A ruler and a dark blue crayon or marker (harder level)
Steps
- Color the seven slices of the days wheel. Count the dots at the edge of each slice to know the day.
- Cut out the wheel and the memory verse strip on the dashed lines. Help younger children with the cutting.
- Glue the wheel into the middle of one paper plate, picture side up. This is the bottom plate.
- Turn the bottom plate over and glue the verse strip on the back.
- Set the top plate (the one with the window cut out) inside the bottom plate. Push a brad through the middle of both plates and open its legs on the back.
- Turn the top plate to show each day, one at a time, and say what God made on that day.
This Creation craft turns two paper plates into a seven-days wheel. Kids color a printed wheel with a picture for each day of creation, and a window in the top plate shows one day at a time as they turn it. It costs under 50 cents a child, takes about 20 minutes and comes with a free printable template and memory verse strip. It comes in three levels, from preschool to 5th grade.

What it looks like finished: easy and medium (first photo) and harder (second photo).
Why this craft works
- Cheap and simple: two paper plates, one printed page, a brass paper fastener and crayons.
- It retells the story: kids turn the wheel from day 1 to day 7 and say what God made each day, in the order Genesis 1 gives it.
- It carries the verse home: the template includes Genesis 1:1 (KJV) on a strip to glue on the back.
Three ways to make it
- Easy (preschool, ages 3–5): you cut out the wheel and the window ahead of time. Kids color the seven slices and glue the wheel into a plate, and you add the top plate with a brad. No scissors.
- Medium (grades K–2): kids color and cut out the wheel, glue it into the bottom plate, glue the verse strip on the back and join the plates with a brad. You cut the windows before class.
- Harder (grades 3–5): kids also color a printed cover dark blue like the deep waters of Genesis 1:2, glue it into the top plate and cut the window themselves, so each day comes out of the darkness. Then they say the verse from memory.
Questions to ask
While kids work, ask what God made first (light, Genesis 1:3), which day has the sun, moon and stars (day 4), and who they drew in the oval on day 6. God made people in His own image (Genesis 1:27), and He saw that everything He made was very good (Genesis 1:31).
Tips for the classroom
Cut the windows in the top plates before class, and poke the center holes with a sharp pencil. For preschoolers, cut out the wheels too, so all they do is color and glue. For the harder level, print the cover page too.

Frequently asked questions
How do you make a simple Creation craft for preschoolers?
Cut out the days wheel and the window in the top plate ahead of time. Preschoolers color the seven slices and glue the wheel into a paper plate, then you add the top plate with a brad. It takes about 15 minutes with no cutting by the kids.
How much does this Creation craft cost?
Under 50 cents a child: two paper plates, one printed page, one brass paper fastener and crayons you already have. The template is free to print.
What Bible verse goes with a Creation craft?
Genesis 1:1 (KJV), "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." It is printed on the verse strip in the template, and kids glue it on the back of the wheel.
How can older kids make this Creation craft harder?
Use the harder level for grades 3–5. Kids also color the printed cover dark like the deep waters of Genesis 1:2, glue it into the top plate and cut out the window themselves. Turning the plate then shows each day coming out of the darkness, and they say Genesis 1:1 from memory.
