What you need

  • Bathrobes and towels for costumes
  • A baby doll and blanket
  • A box or crate for the manger with hay or paper straw
  • A sign that says INN (made in class)
  • A star on a stick
  • Flashlights for the angels
  • A Bible for the narrator

Room for Jesus is a short, original Christmas skit for church kids. A narrator carries the story (reading Luke 2 straight from the Bible) while Mary, Joseph, three busy innkeepers, angels and shepherds act it out. Every child gets a moment, and nobody has to memorize a long speech.

The big idea is simple: the inn had no room, but we can make room for Jesus.

Rehearsal tips:

  • Put each actor's lines on an index card taped to a prop.
  • The narrator should read the Luke 2 verses from a real Bible. It shows kids the story comes from God's Word.
  • Dim the lights for the angel scene. Flashlights make it special.

Frequently asked questions

How many kids do I need for this Christmas skit?

Eight is the minimum (narrator, Mary, Joseph, three innkeepers, one angel, one shepherd). Add more angels and shepherds to give every child a part. Up to 14 works well.

Is this skit free to use?

Yes. It's an original VBS HQ script, free to perform at your church, school or community event. Please don't resell it.

How long does it take to rehearse?

Two 30-minute rehearsals are usually enough because the narrator carries the story and most actors have one or two lines.
