- Time
- 15 to 30 minutes
- Scripture
- Luke 10:25–37
- Bible story
- The Good Samaritan
What you need
- The printed inn, door, coins and verse strip template (page 2), one per child (cardstock is sturdiest)
- Crayons in light brown, dark brown, yellow and gray, plus any colors for drawing
- Scissors and a glue stick
- The printed road map page (page 3), one per child (harder level)
- Tan, green and gray crayons for the road map (harder level)
Steps
- Color the inn light brown and its two small windows yellow. Color the door dark brown and the two coins gray.
- Cut out the inn, the door, the two coins and the verse strip on the dashed lines. Help younger children with the cutting.
- Inside the big oval window on the inn, draw the hurt man lying down to rest, with a bandage on his arm.
- Fold the door's glue tab on the dotted line. Put glue on the tab only and press it on the dotted box beside the oval window, so the door opens and closes.
- Glue the two coins on the two dotted circles at the bottom of the inn.
- Glue the verse strip on the back of the inn and read it together.
This Good Samaritan craft turns one printed page into a paper inn with a door that opens. Behind the door, kids draw the hurt man resting at the inn where the Samaritan took care of him, and they glue on the two coins he gave the host. It costs under 50 cents a child, takes about 20 minutes and comes with a free printable template and memory verse strip. It comes in three levels, from preschool to 5th grade.

What it looks like finished: easy and medium (first photo) and harder (second photo).
Why this craft works
- Cheap and simple: one printed page, crayons, scissors and a glue stick.
- It retells the story: the inn, the care behind the door and the two pence all come from Luke 10:34–35.
- It carries the verse home: the template includes Luke 10:27 (KJV) on a strip to glue on the back.
Three ways to make it
- Easy (preschool, ages 3–5): you cut out the pieces ahead of time. Kids color, draw the hurt man in the window and glue on the two coins. You glue on the door. No scissors.
- Medium (grades K–2): kids color and cut out the inn, draw in the window, glue on the door so it opens, add the two coins and glue the verse strip on the back.
- Harder (grades 3–5): kids make the inn, then color and cut out a road map from Jerusalem down to Jericho and glue the inn beside the road. They glue the verse strip on the back of the map and say the verse from memory.
Questions to ask
While kids work, ask what the priest and the Levite did, and what the Samaritan did when he saw the hurt man (Luke 10:31–34). Ask what it cost the Samaritan to help (Luke 10:35), and who they can help this week. Jesus said, "Go, and do thou likewise" (Luke 10:37).
Tips for the classroom
For preschoolers, cut out the pieces ahead of time, so all they do is color, draw and glue. Remind kids to put glue on the door's tab only, so the door still opens. For the harder level, print the road map page too.

Frequently asked questions
How do you make a simple Good Samaritan craft for preschoolers?
Cut out each child's inn, door, coins and verse strip ahead of time. Preschoolers color the pieces and draw the hurt man in the window, then you glue on the door tab and the verse strip. They glue the two coins on the circles themselves. It takes about 15 minutes with no cutting by the kids.
How much does this Good Samaritan craft cost?
Under 50 cents a child: one printed page (cardstock is best) and crayons and glue you already have. The template is free to print.
What Bible verse goes with a Good Samaritan craft?
Luke 10:27 (KJV), "And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself." It is printed on the verse strip that kids glue on the back.
How can older kids make this Good Samaritan craft harder?
Use the harder level for grades 3–5. After making the inn, kids color and cut out the road map from page 3, with Jerusalem's wall at the top and a palm tree for Jericho at the bottom, and glue the inn on the map beside the road. They glue the verse strip on the back of the map and say Luke 10:27 from memory.
